SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:The Opportunistic Pneumococcal immunisation Trial in Malnutrition (OPTIMAL) study, commencing in 2025, is a planned randomized controlled trial (RCT) of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) in children recovering from severe acute malnutrition. The project is funded by the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council. Under the direction of the Chief Investigator and in close collaboration with Senior Project Coordinator the Site Principal Investigator (Site PI) will have oversight of the OPTIMAL clinical trial as per the requirements under the International Conference on Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP) guidelines. The Site Principal Investigator is expected to have a current medical degree with extensive paediatric experience. Closely supported by the Chief Investigator (CI), the Site Principal Investigator will oversee patient safety, medical, and well-being aspects of the trial in Timor-Leste. The primary responsibilities include supervising the medical management and decision making for trial participants, ensuring the safety and well-being of the participants, managing relationships with clinical teams at HNGV and CHCs, and leadership of study staff for clinical decisions in accordance with the study protocol and Good Clinical Practice (GCP). SELECTION CRITERIA:1. Qualifications:Medical degree (MD or equivalent).Minimum 2 years previous experience in paediatric healthcare in a health facility or medical research setting.2. Essential Criteria: Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience working in child health and/or a Timor-Leste health service or other health related organization.Demonstrated strong leadership skills and experience in supervision of a multidisciplinary team.Proven ability in both verbal and written communication within multidisciplinary teams.Proven track record in upholding the confidentiality of data and handling of personal and sensitive information with discretion.Demonstrated expertise with pediatric venipuncture, administering vaccines to infants and children, and management of severe acute malnutrition.3. Desirable Criteria:Formal qualification in paediatric medicine (e.g. Diploma or Masters).Experience in the conduct of health research projects and/or relevant work experience involving evidence-based medicine, child health, nutrition, vaccine programs or clinical research.Understanding of, or ability to acquire understanding of, the ethical considerations for conducting research in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Guidelines.
